Classes with this icon will be focused on education. Many lectures cover subjects regarding the environment, gardening and nature as a whole. Teachers will lead a lecture and demonstration where students will gain valuable knowledge on pertaining subjects.

Class Description:   Living in constant transition, we all need a reliable way to feel grounded.  This class is an invitation to use yoga as a practice of returning to yourself.  Instead of a “one size fits all” routine, our instructor provides a non-judgemental space that adapts to your energy, shifting between gentle, restortative poses and energizing movement, depending on what you need in the moment.  You will leave with simple tools to stay anchored and a more profound connection between your mind and body.  Students should bring a yoga mat, water bottle and any props (such as blocks or a blanket) that will help you feel supported.  All students are encourage to wear comfortable clothing.   You can reserve your mat space at www.GroundingYogaWithDarci.com/home/connect.  Payment may be made at the class or by calling Seasons at 215.493.4226.  

Instructor’s Bio:  Darci Hammer believes that yoga is a reliable anchor in the “whirlwind of change” that defines our daily lives.  Her own journey is a testiment to this.  After 20 years of practice, it was returning to the mat in the aftermath of the pandemic and the birth of her son that allowed her to truly find her footing again.  This “aha” moment of realizing how vital the ground is when life feels unsteady is the focus of her teaching today.  With nearly 300 hours of formal teacher training, Darci approaches every class with the mindset that we are all lifelong students.  As your guide, Darci provides a grounded space for you to use yoga as an ongoing practice of returning to yourself and building on the connection between your mind and body amidst the beauty of the garden center.

Class Description:  This educational Falconry Experience will teach you the basics of raptors’ behavior, husbandry and the need for their protection and conservation.  You will get a chance to hold the birds on your falconry gauntlet and experience the thrill of having them fly freely to and from your glove.  This memorable moment has been described by some as a ” life-changing moment”.  Two different group classes are offered:  Introductory will teach you how to fly a hawk and Extended will teach you to fly a hawk and an owl’  A small group Private Introductory Classe is also offered.  Each class offers participant and observer pricing.  Reservations and payment are required and can be made at www.MastersoftheSkies.org

Instructor’s Bio:  French native, Gregory Martel is a Master Falconer who has worked with more than sixty raptors since 2010.  He trains and flies hawks, falcons and owls for a variety of purposes, including hunting, falconry abatement (bird control) and education.  He created Masters of the Skies in 2014 to educate the general public about birds of prey and falconry.  His “hands-on” interactive falconry experience has been awarded as one of the Top 10% Best Attractions worldwide on TripAdvisor.

Fly Tying 101

Class Description:  Try your hand at the meticulous craft of creating lifelike lures from feathers, fur and thread.  This hands on class will teach you to tie a fly called a Clouser Minnow.  This tiny bait fish imitation is very easy to tie and can be used in ponds, lakes, streams and rivers.  Using a vice, you will learn the techniques needed to design and create your own insect imitations.  All materials and tools needed to make your fly will be provided.    

Instructor’s Bio:  Growing up along the banks of the Delaware River, Fritz Miller first honed his skills chasing striped bass in the early spring.  Since then, his passion has expanded into a worldwide pursuit of nearly anything that swims.  Fritz has a deep appreciation for tying with natural materials – such as crafting hollow flies and beast patterns for stripers, intricate feather game changers for smallmouth bass, or delicate snowshoe emergers for brook trout.  He is the owner and guide at his fly fishing and fly tying business called Lateral Lines Fly Tying.  He currently guides for South Branch Outfitters in Califon, NJ, specializing in trout and pike and proudly serves as a Norvise Ambassador.  His adventures can be found on Instagram @On_thefly.

Eco-Printing & Dyeing

Class Description: Botanical natural dyeing is the process of embedding botanical “stamps” directly from plant material into fabric or paper.  Working with natural elements such as leaves, blossoms, berries, vegetables and bark, you will design and dye your own silk scarf.  As you are waiting for the materials to process, Kathy will guide you on a nature walk to discuss the dyeing characteristics of different types of natural materials.  Participants are encouraged to collect and flatten botanicals prior to the workshop.  We will break for lunch.  Feel free to pack a lunch or preorder an optional boxed lunch from our local gourmet deli.

Class Description:   Learning to capture the essence of birds using a notebook and pencil is a powerful and fun activity that elevates your adventures in nature to an entirely new level.  Learn quick and easy-to-learn drawing techniques to document your feathered friends in the fashion of early orthithologists.  Participants will learn the fundamental skills of capturing bird forms with gesture sketching, drawing moving birds and using written notes to augment your sketches.  A special visit from our feathered friends at Masters of the Skies will allow you to have a live falcon model for the first part of the class.  The second half of the class will include a walk through our meadow in search of more subjects to draw.  Participants are welcomed to bring their own personal sketch books and favorite drawing pencils.  Drawing paper sketch books and pencils will also be provided.  Be sure to dress for the weather!

Advanced Eco-Printing & Dyeing - Color Infusion

Class Description:  Take your eco-printing skills to the next level.  Learn how to embody gorgeous color backgrounds into your eco-printed textile.  This class focuses on a technique called “eco-printing with a carrier blanket” and has become very popular amongst textile artists around the world.  Beginning with a blank white scarf, participants will create a design on the fabric using plant materials.  A separate fabric will then be used to infuse a colorful background.  Participants are encouraged to have some previous eco-printing experience. Class Description: Join us for an afternoon of chemistry and creativity!  Cyanotype is a basic photographic process that uses the sun’s UV rays to create shadowy silhouettes against a vibrant blue background.  Participants will scavenger for  printing materials, or bring your own flat items to experiment with (flattened botanicals, lace, feathers or stencils). Practice on watercolor paper then finish with a final project on a tote bag.

Class Description: Explore the primary mushroom species found in our region, including medicinal and edible species, and their studied benefits and uses in nutrition and healing.  You will learn about the functions these mushrooms serve within their ecosystem, the types of environments they inhabit and their effect on the human body.  You will also enjoy an introduction to mushroom identification and then put the skills to practice with a walk in the woods around Seasons Garden Center.  You will learn about safe practices for foraging and different resources to guide you in the future.  Depending on weather and growing conditions, all participants will have the opportunity to take home a sample of an edible and/or medicinal mushroom.  

Instructor’s Bio:   Lauren Lembo has been working with plants and fungi for over a decade.  She has completed certificate coursework in Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy through the University of Minnesota’s Earl E. Class Description: Botanical natural dyeing is the process of embedding botanical “stamps” directly from plant material into fabric or paper.  Working with natural elements such as leaves, blossoms, berries, vegetables and bark, you will design and dye your own silk scarf.  As you are waiting for the materials to process, Kathy will guide you on a nature walk to discuss the dyeing characteristics of different types of natural materials.  Participants are encouraged to collect and flatten botanicals prior to the workshop.  We will break for lunch.  Feel free to pack a lunch or preorder an optional boxed lunch from our local gourmet deli.

Advanced Eco-Printing & Dyeing - Color Infusion

Class Description:  Take your eco-printing skills to the next level.  Learn how to embody gorgeous color backgrounds into your eco-printed textile.  This class focuses on a technique called “eco-printing with a carrier blanket” and has become very popular amongst textile artists around the world.  Beginning with a blank white scarf, participants will create a design on the fabric using plant materials.  A separate fabric will then be used to infuse a colorful background.  Participants are encouraged to have some previous eco-printing experience. Fly Tying Basics

Class Description:  Explore the meticulous craft of creating lifelike lures from feathers, fur and thread.  This introductory lecture and demonstration style class will discuss exactly what fly tying and fly fishing are.  You will learn the differences between fly fishing and “regular” fishing, how fly fishing originated, why we tie flies, the basic tools required, the materials available to use and the different styles of tying.  Watch a demonstration of fly tying as we try to mimic local insect life.  Students will have an opportunity to see and touch the materials and tools used in the process of fly tying.  

Instructor’s Bio:  Growing up along the banks of the Delaware River, Fritz Miller first honed his skills chasing striped bass in the early spring.  Since then, his passion has expanded into a worldwide pursuit of nearly anything that swims.  Fritz has a deep appreciation for tying with natural materials – such as crafting hollow flies and beast patterns for stripers, intricate feather game changers for smallmouth bass, or delicate snowshoe emergers for brook trout.  He is the owner and guide at his fly fishing and fly tying business called Lateral Lines Fly Tying.  He currently guides for South Branch Outfitters in Califon, NJ, specializing in trout and pike and proudly serves as a Norvise Ambassador.  His adventures can be found on Instagram @On_thefly.
